Fall is More than Colors

I love fall. It signals one of those magic laws of nature. Trees take a few months off, our ponds slow down to rest, families come together for the holidays. Every new fall is refreshing to me. It’s a time to reflect on the year, be thankful in my heart and look in the rear-view mirror at what I’ve absorbed over a long period of time.

About this time last year, I was thinking about slowing down. Not necessarily do less, but maybe slow the pace.

Then, in February, I got a call. I’d been elected into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. It took several months to absorb the significance of that honor, and the point was driven home October 11, at my induction ceremony. I’d not felt so much love in a room in a long time.

That election and induction has primed me to ramp up, not slow down. That recognition is a sign from above, encouraging me to keep sharing what I’ve learned with all of you.

That’s my job, even though this isn’t really a job. It’s a passion, fueled and maintained by many clients, subscribers, readers, and friends over a long time.

This issue of Pond Boss has got some really good stuff…as do all our issues. I suspect you’ll glean a few nuggets to help you become an even better steward and pondmeister to your precious properties and the water which reside there.

Please join me in giving thanks for our bounty, as big or as small as it is.

And let me thank you for being a part of our Pond Boss extended family.

A series dedicated to Bob Lusk's general musings about land, water and life.
